Helping Hands- Leanne Spiers' 1st Grade
Ms. Leanne’s first grade classroom is designed to feel like a second home—warm, welcoming, and full of opportunities for growth. The environment encourages conceptual learning, where students are guided to understand the “why” behind ideas rather than simply memorizing facts. Hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and inquiry-based lessons, allow children to develop strong thinking skills and a genuine love for learning.
In our classroom we strive to foster independence, creativity, and confidence in each of our students. Our classroom environment reflects these values in its design and function. Creativity is nurtured and student work is prominently displayed throughout the room. A thoughtfully planned classroom library contains a variety of literary choices including featured books that directly relate to our current conceptual unit of study. Materials are accessible and clearly labeled so that students can confidently navigate learning projects independently and in collaboration with their peers.
Above all, our classroom is a place where every child feels safe, loved, and a sense of belonging. It is a place where strong relationships are formed, challenges are faced head on, successes are celebrated, and mistakes are seen as learning opportunities. In our classroom students have fun while learning and develop confidence in themselves as they grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
